Use everyone's favorite m-Indicator for safety !

I was recently introducing myself to one of the top trending application of Android marketplace : m-Indicator. The application takes < 4 MB space of your android phone and it is the simplicity of this application which has resulted in about 5 lakhs people using it.

The application is available at : Google Play and the recent update v9.5.51 Ladybug has come up with an important feature of Woman safety. The feature was inaugurated by Honorable Railway Minister about a month back on 9th Feb 2015.

The new feature is explained in detail @ Mobond's site, however I thought of sharing the usage with easy screen prints. Hope this helps.

1. Please install the application from Google Play. Those having it on their phone should make sure they have latest version installed.

2. Once app is installed, select the option "Safety". This should open up a detail screen. The top part of screen now show emergency contact numbers of Western Railway and Central Railway helpline. The lower part has Safety Setting - this is part we should go through now.

3. Enter the required details Your Name, Contact 1. The moment you provide the 1st Contact, a safety shortcut will be placed on your phone's home screen ( app will notify you about this ). The option to create shortcut is also available to be used explicitly in case you delete the shortcut accidently.

4. Once you click the Safety icon from your home screen, a SMS informing your approximate location is sent to contact 1 and contact 2. [ I have used my own number to test out this feature. I understand the feature shouldn't be misused, but right now I am using it for explaination ].

The SMS contains a link with your approximate location - clicking on link would open a map showing the sent location.

*** The option we used above on #4 is "Manual Emergency SMS" feature, as you see the SMS is sent with a manual effort ***

5. The application also has "Automatic Emergency SMS" feature where it sends the emergency SMS automatically if :

  • Time is between 9PM and 8AM - non working hours
  • The phone receives 2 miss calls from Contact 1 or Contact 2 ( the contacts you registered ).

This is something we can call Awesome !

6. The new feature is not just about sending emergency SMS, there is something more to add. "Local Train Travel" adds a mechanism to alert your contacts as well as police/RPF.

To use this feature, you should click "RPF" icon on the page where you view local train's schedule. See below screen print for detail. On clicking RPF it would prompt you to select compartment location - Front, Middle or End. Selecting this option would save your travel information into the app.

Once your travelling information is saved, and you click the safety icon on your home screen, 1. SMS will be sent to your contacts, and 2. selecting one of 1st two options Western Railway Helpline or Central Railway Helpline, will give you an option of calling their emergency numbers 1311 & 1275 respectively and the app will also send SMS to RPF with your travelling details.

7. One last feature which should be discussed lastly is "Child Lock". This feature is to prevent accidental SMS sending from your phone. Say a child accidently clicks on the safety icon on the home screen, the app with Child Lock ON will prompt a window to confirm if you want SMS to be sent. [ Please see below screen print for details ].

Finishing on the detail about the new safety feature, I would say the application already won all the Mumbaikar hearts with its convenient UI and quick options to ease the travel through Mumbai's lifeline, but now with this safety feature added it is a "must-have" application on each and everyone's cell phone.

So grab your cell phone and install the latest version asap on everyone's phone - daughter, wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, cousins, niece, female colleagues, female friends, etc etc. and be sure to share this blog as well so that they can quickly learn this new feature.

Thank You Mobond for coming up with such an awesome application.
